[There's a long pause before an answer comes.]

I did, yes. My company was a defense contractor.

[ Cisco doesn't miss that 'was'. ]

[ Tony hadn't recognized Cisco's little joke on his superhero name, or seemed to know about his suit. ]

Somewhat literally. The end of one and the beginning of the other coincided.

[ He's curious - of course he is - but Cisco tries to treat Tony the way he would want to be. He's sure that his changed behavior had caught some people's attention, but he's not exactly up to explaining why he'd been so giddy all week. ]

if you wanna get a drink sometime and swap origin stories / drown amnesia-related sorrows i'm game
or we could also just never mention it again and pretend it never happened

[Another pause.]

[It's not anything he wants to talk about, particularly. But he probably does owe Cisco for having been an asshole to him.]

[ Cisco texts along the name of a bar, it's address, and a time to meet - in an hour. That ought to give Tony some time to wrap up anything he needs to, and Cisco time to get ready. ]

[Her voice comes strained, and probably echoes a little oddly as she calls Tony amidst sprinting down the stairwell.]

Tony? Where are you? Tell me you're not in the dorms.

What? No, I'm at the workshop.

[It sounds distant and distracted right up until Tony registers the strain in her voice. Suddenly his own becomes a whole lot sharper.]

Ava? What's wrong?

Good.

[His voice gets sharper and her own gets a little more affected, her tone low.]

Building's on fire. My fault. I'm-- I'm going to get everyone out, but I could use some help.

Your--

[He cuts himself off, followed by the sudden sounds of moving metal. Deal with it later.]

Be there in a minute. Can you get out?

[Good, because Ava is also in deal-with-it-later mode.]

Yeah. But as soon as I put something on the Network so people know what's going on I'm going back in. The ninth floor is a mess. Which means the people on the top floors are going to be in trouble.

And I don't know just how bad it is, yet.

He's been back for a while. He's part of the Avengers. Or used to be, I guess. You guys are friends, I think. It's weird. I don't know if you actually like him sometimes, but I think you do.

That still makes no sense and I don't know what an avengers is. Can we get to the point here?

[ Cisco is feeling particularly proud of a bit of work that he'd done on the gauntlets he's building. It's a risk, and he knows it, because if anyone could look at them and tell they were meant for channeling superpowers, it's Tony. But he doesn't have to say they're for him...

So he snaps a couple of pictures - one from far away but mostly loving close ups of the joints and wires and intricate pieces that he'd put in to help him modulate and channel his vibe blasts. ]

Looks good. Are you trying to regulate something or are they just a shinier way not to break fingers when you hit someone?

do i look like the kind of guy who punches people?

i mean hopefully they'll stand up to a knock or two but they're for channeling energy
specifically the multidimensional kind

Hey, I don't judge. Punching people can be surprisingly cathartic.

i did punch my asshole coworker once and it was pretty much the best thing ever.
tho in my defense he was trying to escape after this whole thing where he tried to bring down a bridge with a bunch of civilians on it
and melt the flash's organs using sound waves
and also he blew me up and gave me a concussion
so pretty much he royally had it coming.

it's the stuff that makes up the multiverse
the portal to this place operates using multidimensional energy, i'm sure of it
and there are other ways of manipulating it

I think when someone attempts to blow you up with malice aforethought, you are pretty much obligated to punch them. At minimum.

I'll take your word for it. As long you don't accidentally end up sending yourself somewhere else.
